Like most of you, I got the iPhone 12 Pro Max on release day, with Apple now confirming the new iPhone 13 to release next week, we will have to pay to upgrade?

This makes no sense as they have waived everyone’s when you call them

I agree, they also told me to create a new account to pre order,I did this and they took the upfront fee but then cancelled the order

Really don’t get what I did wrong then. I was at work so used the web chat and spoke to three different people only to be told nope we aren’t doing it each time.
I was fuming by the end of it as I’d seen on Twitter people getting the fee waived… £1800 a year lost for the sake of £100 😂🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

you used web chat :p. Call them, it’s a different team and i think they have more power/trusted more to use their judgment.
I didn’t even have to complain or say much, I said I heard they are waiving the fees, he said oh I hadn’t heard that but I’ll check. Put it in the system and he said yes, no fee, 2 phones done in 45 mins, and 25 of that was on hold because it was 2pm today

I already called them and the system wouldn’t allow them to do it,I don’t have any fee on my account,it just says early upgrade 1st October

Hmm that’s not the same as anytime upgrade, that’s just an upgrade inside a normal contract?
In that case they lose out on the monthly rental which pays for the phone if they upgrade you early.

i rang them today. Sorted it out straight away… apparently the web team weren’t given the correct information and all customers who upgraded October/November last year on anytime upgrades are eligible now.

I’m due to upgrade 1st October, they won’t let me any earlier

There’s a difference between anytime upgrade and normal upgrades. For a second think of it from EEs perspective.
anytime upgrade:
- 24 month contract started September 2019 with iPhone 11
- September 2020 you would be able to upgrade to iPhone 12 for free, 12 months line rental + value of iPhone 11 covers their costs.
- iPhone 12 isn’t out yet, you pay October and November line rental for no benefit to your self.
- November you upgrade to iPhone 12, they get 12 months line rental and nov 2033 iPhone 13.here if they let you upgrade early they still got 24 x monthly line rental and gave you one new phone. It works out the same to them.
on the other hand a normal 24 month contract is priced to pay off the phone in 34 months. Letting you upgrade early they won’t get their money back.
So it’s fair enough really, and neither is them waiving the anytime upgrade fee some big gesture, it’s only fair.

That’s 2022 not 2033 and 24 months not 34 I mean 🙂
