Netgear M1 MR1100 Firmware NTG9X50C_12.06.39.00

I'm aware the the MR1100 is quite a popular 4G LTE router on here.

Is anyone aware if a new firmware version might have released semi-recently that may have been auto-updated on the MR1100-100EUS ?

I recently observed a problem where the webgui only appeared with the top menu and was non-functional. I performed a factory reset and webgui functionality was restored.

Firmware version: NTG9X50C_12.06.39.00

Bootloader version: NTG9X50C_12.06.39.00

GUI Version: MR1100-100EUS_04.01.85.00

Firmware Build Date: 2021/05/10

The last two firmware updates I recall was manually putting on 12.06.08.00 to fix an issue with uncontrolled reboots when connected to wired power without the battery in, and a subsequent auto-update where I couldn't find online release notes.

The 12.06.08.00 release notes/changelog seems to have disappeared from the dead link shown at https://community.netgear.com/t5/Mobile-Routers-Hotspots-Modems/Netgear-Nighthawk-m1-MR1100-Firmware...

I printed that changelog on 2019-11-02 and the AT&T rollout of 12.06.39.00 was in Jul 2021 so there's a fair chance I've be auto-updated. https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/att-rolls-out-new-firmware-verison-ntg9x50c_12-06-39-00_att_06-14-t...

Subsequent to the factory reset, I've found the MR1100 connecting on LTE B1 whereas it had always previously connected on B3 or B7 so I'm not sure if this is a local network change or related to the factory reset.

A minor mention that in addition to the above I've put the opnsense firewall in the DMZ and one of these two changes has caused the MR1100 to run about 10 Celsius lower at about 39 Celsius now.

Weird coincidence that as part of

I had to take a screenshot to prove the contents of a text message and on 2021-09-14 I took a screenshot which captures the firmware version was NTG9X50C_12.06.12.00, so there was an auto-update.

Anyone seen any similar fault in the webgui?

Which model do you have

MR1100-100EUS. or

MR1100-100EEUS

First one being If Network Unlocked then Network Firmware free for Europe, Second was Network and Simlocked and Firmware for EE, there where some differences, the were also some BT Businesses versions floating around that had, for some reason, O2 Firmware Installed that covered more Bands and were compatible with all UK Networks.

MR1100-100EUS

Noting the latest changelog I see https://kb.netgear.com/000061730/MR1100-Firmware-Version-12-06-11-00 as linked from the support page https://www.netgear.com/support/product/MR1100.aspx

If it's anything like last time, it's worth saving a copy as they tend to disappear. Now that I check that version more carefully, it seems it hasn't yet been updated, unless I'm looking at the page for the wrong hardware version.

A minor note for anyone hitting this when searching: text messages were preserved (most likely by good design) after the factory reset which was lucky as two were unread.

Some Routers save the SMS directly to the SIM, some to the Device and or a mix if the message count is exceeded, either way I would always, with ANY Device,  recommend you remove the SIM before doing a Factory Reset, and I suppose Read or Save your SMS, again before doing a Reset.

Based on the small number of SMS it can hold, they are probably left on the SIM so were always going to be safe excepting some freakish accident.

An inconvenience was that I couldn't read the SMS on the device due to the webgui dysfunction. It's one of those things where one can spent more time to reduce the risk, or choose to take a calculated risk in the hope of saving time. 🤓

The key question I needed to answer was whether I needed to urgently purchase a new router in time for visitors staying over.

I'm curious whether I'm the only one who got this issue with the MR1100, or whether it was some combination of my settings that triggered it.

Making a note that at least one other person has now hit this on the Netgear forum:
