I originally bought my device back in 2016, but have just found it again.. I bought it from PCWorld locked to EE and had £10 credit on it.
well, the credit has long expired, but when I try to register the mobile number it came with on myee app, it’s saying the number doesn’t exist.
shall I give up and just get a new sim and will the device still work with a new sim?
thanks

@Kdownmobile : Yes, get a new EE SIM. It should work.
The existing SIM & no. have been deactivated after such a long time (>9 months) of non-use.

Yes, Login to your MBB router at http://192.168.1.1 with username/pwd as "admin"/"admin" even when no mobile connection.

Can this device still be unlocked for other networks? As EE is just way out of my price range right now

To unlock an EE device not bought directly from EE you need to call Customer Services on +44 800 956 6000 (option 2, option 4) to put you in touch with the Unlocking Team to request an Unlock Code. You will be asked for your email addy. They will take payment (of £8.99) from any valid UK bank card.
Once the process has been started you will receive an email from the Unlocking Team to process the unlock. It can take up to 10 days to complete the unlock.

But how will they unlock it, if the sim was deactivated, due to age of it?

It's the device that's locked, not the SIM. They send you an unlock code which will be requested when you use a non-EE SIM in it.
