Iphone 12 overheating and draining battery on 5G

Hi EE, I've had my iPhone 12 for a few days now and really noticing that the battery life is awful on 5G. During my work shift I listen to podcasts that would usually use 10% battery life of my old phone (iPhone 8 plus). But with the iPhone 12 it's using over 90% of the battery life. I know that this massively decreases the life of the battery meaning the battery will need to be replaced at some point of the phone's lifespan.

The phone is also overheating massively. When using 5G the phone also becomes very hot and the screen starts to dim even with auto brightness is turned off. I am unsure if this is a fault with the phone itself having seen many reports online from other sources or if it is a fault with the 5G feature. I have also noticed that my screen is dimming on its own by 50% brightness and I have to keep upping the brightness manually. This is starting to get quite tedious and I feel that there is a fault with the phone itself now.

Any help would be massively appreciated and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you in advance! 🙂

@Stonehammer94   Do a network reset on the device, Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.     The device is getting hot because the battery is draining fast the faster it drains the hotter the battery will get.

do you have loads of apps running in the background?  I don’t mean apps in the app switcher I mean apps that are allowed to update in the background? Settings>General>Background App Refresh.  Apps in the switcher are in a paused state but still update in the background they only launch faster and use less power to launch so don’t close them down.  Only close them from the switcher if you have issues with that app launching.  Apps use more power to launch if they are not in the app switcher.
5G will consume more battery power if you don’t need it because of listening to podcasts and 4G is ok just use that.    But do the network reset first and try that first before trying 4G only.

Thanks Chris, ill give the network reset a go first and see how that does it then try the other steps afterwards, thank you! Massively appreciated

Hi Leanne

I’ve been at work listening to some podcasts and my phone was at 100% when I left for work and now the phone is at 18% battery. I have changed the network to 4G only and taken background refresh off and everything that was suggested. I’ll have a look at the link you out down for trouble shooting but wanted to pop it on here that the phone is still getting hot and battery draining really fast.

thanks

@Stonehammer94   If it’s still doing this you might want to try a factory reset on the device. ( back up the device first )   Once you have done this there is nothing else you can try and you might want to contact EE about this or even Apple as they will exchange the device under warranty if it’s faulty but they will ask you to try a factory reset first.
