I have recently purchased the galaxy watch3 4g model (not from EE). I have connected and chosen a mobile plan from EE and this shows on my account. I can make and receive calls fine but can only receive notifications and send messages when my watch is connected remotely to my phone (by choosing this option through the wearable app).
If i dont choose to connect remotely then my watch goes into standalone mode and I can only make and receive calls.
I am slightly confused as to why I cannot receive notifications or send messages in standalone mode when i Pay for a 4g data plan.
If i need to rely on being remotely connected to my phone then what is the purpose of paying for a date plan for my watch.
Also when my phone is off (for example the battery dies) my phone also goes into standalone mode meaning i get no notifications again or send messages.
Surely this shouldnt be happening? Any help would be great.

@Garhart For texts on the watch your phone has to be on even if your phone isn’t with you. Text are sent via the message centre number and that so your phone not the watch. As for notifications have you set up everything correctly on the watch to receive notifications?

Hi
Ok that makes sense for the text messages. Thanks
Yes everything is set up for notifications correctly on the wearable app and the watch as far as Im aware. As soon as im not connected remotely i get the small watch symbol appear at the top of my watch telling me im in standalone EE mode. As soon as im in this mode all i can do is make and receive calls. No other notification such as whatsapp, emails etc come through. Surely i dont need to be remotely connected for these notification if i have a 4g data plan? Otherwise I dont know what I need the data plan for?

If you think about it, app notifications are always going to need your phone to be on, unless the app can be installed in the watch and supports multiple instances with the same account or directly supports a watch. This is because the notifications come from a third party who don’t know that you are using a watch. The notifications therefore go to your phone, the watch app then sends them to your watch.
On the other hand calls and texts are routed by the network which knows you have a watch.
In short, unless the app knows about the watch it’s notifications will go to the phone which then sends them to your watch.
