Changing contract phone to ipad

I have a second phone on my contract that my ex is using and there is still a year to go on the contract. Can I cancel his phone and add an iPad?

@Sw43  If you cancel it you’ll have to pay off the remaining term of the contract. You’ll get a 20% discount on the remaining term fee.

Text INFO to 85075 from it to find out your early termination fee. It will basically be months left x monthly charge - 20%.
