Change of number without request

Today my mother in law had her broadband connected, also her landline which wasn't working for nearly 2 months. After the engineer left, I tried to ring her landline number and it had a signal of engaged. I contact her on her mobile and she phone me back with the landline, The number that came up was a new one and the change of number was never requested. Has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks.

Hi you said that the broadband was connected today and old one wasn't working for 2 months so old one might have been disconnected if your mother in law  switched provider she would have had to enter it at the start upon joining so contact customer service on 08009566000 from landlines or other networks or 150 from EE mobiles or alternatively have a live chat just Google EE live chat or send a message via social media

Customer service will open in the morning as it's after 11pm

Did she give her no. to EE when she signed up? Did she ask to keep her no? Who was her BB with before?
