4G download speeds half the upload speeds

JB1919
Visitor

I have been using EE 4G broadband for about 4 years now (3 years under Virgin) and 1 year with EE direct.

I live out in the countryside and can't get more than 1.5Mbps on phone line and originally via 4G used to be able to get 40Mbps down and 20 Mbps up.

The first two years were great and then EE started doing work on the mast and the speeds dropped to a max of 30Mbps. Then after another outage and work on the mast speeds dropped to 20Mbps, but upload speeds shot up to 40Mbps.

In the last year I have had many outages where work has been done on the local mast and days where no work has been done but have just completely lost the 4G signal (for 1 week on one occasion, which was nightmare!).

The speeds as tested today are 23Mbps down and 38Mbps up.

I even bought another 4G router at one point just in case that was the issue, but the speeds and slow downloads were exactly the same.

EE your work on the mast has made my service 50% worse and your prices have risen by over 25%.

Please can you sort the local mast out so we can benefit from proper 4G speeds again.

Area is DT10

Thanks JB

Hi @JB1919

Welcome to the community.

Thanks for your detailed post. Mobile speeds can vary depending on a number of variables.

Do you experience any problems with your service when the speed drops to 20mbps?

Chris

Download speeds can also be affected by varying load on your site, i.e. the amount of users connected and what those users are doing, as much as what "capacity" (in simple terms) is available.

This also affects many fixed-line broadband connections.

As per @Christopher_G - are you experiencing any service issues with your internet connection otherwise?

I'm similiar here. Postcode is BT71.

Download speed is often around 10-20Mbps with uploads even hitting 42mbps.

Recent tests include - 21 down 42 up, 16 down 44 up, 12 down 30 up..

Have used Ookla Speed test and Opensignal. Using TP Link MR600 4G+ router.

I know EE are working in the area at the moment (I get that message regularly), but not sure if this will resolve the download/upload speed discrepancy?

Welcome to the community.

Are you still experiencing problems with your speeds?
