got an iphone 15 unable to send a message direct from contacts only by whatsapp , settings match wifes iphone 12

I'm so sorry, @peterwolds. I misread your post. I thought you could send text messages, but not on WhatsApp. Are you near an EE Store? If so, it may be worth popping in so that they can check the settings for everything from our side, and on the device.
