Hey Guys,
Just wanted to create a separate thread from the Discussion thread to specifically discuss EE Preorder tracking.
I think it's always helpful/reassuring to keep each other updated on the latest when it comes to this time of year, especially with EE's not-so-great track record on keeping customers informed about their preorders.

I must disagree. There is almost certainly some form of a ‘list’, more likely a database backlog of orders, probably sorted by the timestamp when each order was created. By default, this would mean that the order numbers are sorted sequentially. It’s plausible that the customer service team might not have access to this, but it’s highly likely that management and the fulfilment centres would have access to such information.

I paid off my 14 Pro Max contract £600 odd on the 15th. Then I upgraded to the 256gb PM NT with a similar plan. Is it correct that they’re still charging me the full price for the 14 Pro Max Contract? Even though I’ve paid the phone off? Surely I’m just on the “Unlimited Plan” now? Just got my bill today. 15 PM obviously hasn’t been delivered yet.!

Sure, you are right, I should have clarified. There definitely will be a list. But agents would not have access to it to give any information about timescales or position in relation to the list

Your new contract doesnt officially begin until the new phone is delivered, so yes, the old plan is still active. You could call them after the phone is delivered to see if they can adjust the bill if there is much difference.

This is why we created a community populated list, so we can visualise to a certain extent where we stand in terms of queue position of orders 🙂
Obviously, we only have a small sample size, but it's more of an insight that we would have otherwise.

I think that it’s likely that many people have access to the list. Customer Services certainly won’t which is why they don’t give out a queue position (or have much of an idea about lead times).
At distribution they’ll likely scan the handset on a conveyor system that’ll generate a packaging label.
The order of fulfilment (should) based on the list of confirmed orders which the operator bags with a leaflet and maybe a basic invoice (and SIM card where appropriate).

They’re terrible for this.
I had an iPad with them on a 2 year contract to pay off the iPad, I eventually paid it off but forgot, assuming that there were 24 scheduled payments and after that you’d only pay for data.
Bizarrely that isn’t the case, even after you’d paid the device off they will continue to charge you full price until you tell them not to, i couldn’t believe it when they told me this but it’s true - you need to call them and make sure they change over to a data / sim only plan to cover the time for the new phone arriving.

I would advise against calling them and asking to change plan to a "sim" only plan for the time being in case it accidentally cancels the pre order. But certainly an option if you don't mind the risk.
By the old school method of contracts is terrible and why networks are trying to move to device financing instead to split the data and phone costs so that once the phone is paid off, just the data remains

The bottom line is the previous plan is based on paying off the device, which is now already paid for.
in no world should you be paying a plan based on paying off a device when that device has already been paid off in full - of course most wouldn’t mind if the new phone was dispatched within a couple of days as the difference would be negligible, but when you’re talking of potentially another month it’s significant.
Choice is with the person whose contract it is but personally I wouldn’t be paying another £60-80 for fear of EE’s incompetence in that applying the price that you actually should be paying they inadvertently cancel your new order although I can understand why some may feel that way given the last few weeks.

I think the best course of action should people find themselves in that position is to wait for the upgrade to complete and then request that the difference between the old monthly cost and the data only cost be credited to the account. Whether EE will do this though is debatable.
