Its likely just delayed, they always want it back!
If you want to maximise the money - If it’s a 14 and good condition, then wait for the pack, but don't send it back right away. You’ll get an sms about the charge you’ll get if you don’t return it, and how long you have left. This is usually much lower than what EE tell you on the phone.
Then check music magpie, and other sites, and you’ll likely get £100+ extra for trade in vs the EE penalty amount.
