I've done this a few times and thought it would be bad to break tradition, so wanted to create a thread for people to discuss their preorders etc as we all wait for our new iPhones.

So I ordered on pre-order release day, I rang up at 12.50 and the phone was answered at 1.05 pm, the lady I spoke to said I was the first person she spoke to, but by that point there was 100 people already in the call queue.
Order went through no problem, mine was a £200 upgrade fee. Bit gutted as it would have only been £100 if it had been the 28th of this month, but I didn’t want to leave ordering until then as I had the horrible feeling it’d be on back order by then, we’ve had this before, both with iPhone and Samsung phones (my partner waited weeks and weeks for his Z Fold 3, even though we ordered it on release day).
Funnily enough, the £6.95 for postage went on my card immediately, but the £200 fee didn’t go through. She realised this near the end of the call, and put me on hold so she could use the card details I’d keyed in to take it as a separate transaction. I wish EE did what another large phone provider do, where you can pay £3.99 extra a month and upgrade for free, any time you want. I believe it’s free on some tariffs, too. One thing EE have at least done, is let you upgrade for free after 10 months now, instead of 12. Which at least means you can pre-order without an upgrade fee!
Anyway, I got an 002 order number straight away (I did order using 150). Although the system was on a go-slow when she put my order through, I was still done by half past, so I’m surprised I wasn’t an 001. On checking the order details, I had the usual ‘awaiting confirmation’ for delivery.
First thing this morning, they changed my phone plan to the new Apple One which was included with my upgrade, and I got the usual barrage of texts cancelling everything out etc. I went online to check my order details again and it said my phone had been dispatched on the 15th. So today. As yet though, I’ve not had the delivery text from DPD, no option to book my one hour slot etc and no DPD tracking number to check that progress. Fingers crossed it’ll be with me tomorrow though, it’s definitely been dispatched anyway!

I believe it’s where you are in the order queue, some get 001 numbers (it’s a few numbers, not just 001), I guess if your order goes through later it’s an 002 number.

So live chat are convinced there is a device allocated to my order waiting to be picked up by DPD, but can't confirm when it will be picked up by DPD (fair enough, doesn't want to accidentally give out false info). So it may seem even though my order was put to the back of queue yesterday, it will only be a matter of days rather than weeks before I get my phone.
