I've done this a few times and thought it would be bad to break tradition, so wanted to create a thread for people to discuss their preorders etc as we all wait for our new iPhones.

Just off the phone with customer services after a 30 minute hold wait. This is the 4th call to them since ordering Pro Max on Monday. I was told over the phone on Monday to expect a Friday delivery of my order as I had placed my order over the phone. Many calls later to find out where my order is, I have finally been told this morning that ALL Pro Max are currently out of stock and my order won't be delivered until they are back in stock.
Despite this, I was told on my Friday call with EE customer services that my order was sitting in the EE warehouse waiting for dispatch so I should expect it either Saturday or Tuesday. Clearly that was a lie as the latest person I spoke to advised they are all now out of stock and I won't be receiving it until at least the end of the month.
Not happy at all. The order process always sucks with EE and I've never had a smooth experience, now it seems that customer services can't keep their story straight. Will be putting in a complaint as the only offer to correct this was to cancel my order and place another one, which as I reminded the CS rep that would put me to the back of the queue and extend my wait time. Ridiculous from such a large company.

I know you’re frustrated and to be honest I would be too with them telling you one thing after another, but iPhone launches are always popular and if you don’t order quick on preorder day then you stand a very good chance of not getting the phone on launch day. It’s always the same every year over all networks and stores including apple themselves. You preordered on Monday when preorders opened on Friday at 1300. Yes EE should have told you the correct information when you order but they just give you what the computers say. Like I said this happens each and every year when a new iPhone is released. For the best chance of getting what you want and on launch day is ordering direct from apple as soon as the online store opens. I’ve personally had my delivered on yesterday from EE but I was on the EE website from 1250 on Friday and got my order in quick. The same happened last year. I got mine delivered on launch day after ordering as soon as EE allowed you to order.

It's not just a case of being quick though, I placed my order 4 times, they took 4 lots of payment, then finally on the last try it went through, only then to receive 4 orders asking me to contact them. I do get that it's only a once a year thing, but I've never yet been able to log in, place my order and relax. There's always been an issue somewhere along the way, on the years the website doesn't go norks up, there's an issue with their ordering system. This is all because of creaky legacy systems sat in the background.
When a customer places an order online, it goes through a newer system, hence the XKO numbers, that then queues to go onto the mainframe, whatever that might be, once it's trickled through onto the mainframe, that's when you get the proper order number and it's confirmed. It's these bottlenecks that spoil it for everyone. When we ring up to do it, the operator is most likely able to access the main system, which is why they can tell you if it's definitely gone through or not.
I'm not sure if anyone has ever placed an order outside of these pre-orders, but when you do it's all pretty swift, you get the XKO and then within a minute or so you get an email confirming or declining the order.
Until EE invest in overhauling the entire internal network, I'm afraid it's always going to be like this. How do I know all of this? I've worked with legacy operators for a long time, the older networks like EE, O2 and Vodafone all have the same proprietary systems, depending on the seniority of the advisor you speak to, they sometimes have access to the mainframe, but as time goes on and people leave, less and less advisors are left who know how to put code directly into the network.

Yeah I completely understand you. The it and background systems aren’t fit for purpose, well they work ok until iPhone ordering day when they struggle. But it isn’t just EE or the networks. Even apple who have probably one of the best backhaul systems struggle. I personally ordered a iPhone from apple no issue however last year I ended up ordering two as Apple Pay was causing issues and reading the MacRumors forums lots of people uk and us struggled to get into the Apple Store or complete the order. I personally think the best way to order from ee during iPhone preorders is by ringing them and speaking to a customer service representative.

I ordered mine on the 14/09, and I only have the xko number 😞 just wondering if anybody order theirs after and have recieved their 002 numbers? Bit shambolic that it’s coming onto the 5th day since I ordered the phone and have received no expected dates…

Has anyone had info about returning old iPhone from anytime upgrade. No contact from EE yet

Weird, not had anything and on the contract it says nothing about return. I upgraded on the phone, they mentioned it and I agreed condition but still nothing
