new sim cards for samsung s8 not compatible on ee

I have had to move from Plusnet as they are ceasing their mobile service shortly so I thought I go to EE. (Plusnet piggyback on EE). My number was ported over 24 hours ago only to find there was no internet outside of home broadband.

I spoke to EE tech support who told me the Samsung Galaxy S8 is not compatible with their new sim cards. S8 is five years old. It seems I bought a contract that despite customer services asking on more than one occasion what my phone was, I cannot use.

There are old pages telling me how to set up the S8 for EE ....but they are out of date.

Only solutions: 1] buy a new phone, or 2] cancel my contract with EE and find another provider.

Be warned ....if you want to move to EE with an S8 it won't work. I'm now tryng to find a similar deal with someone else.

So much for communications from an organisation that specialises in communication.

Hi again, success at last with talkmobile SIM, if you get one just be aware it may not work on data straight away, my heart sank at first! I had to go on the chat ( got a real person) who advised I needed to change the APN  from the Vodafone one that had appeared, I was able to do while they were online, switch phone off and on and there’s the 4G indicator phew. Just wish the ‘welcome’ info had explained this. Good luck all Samsung S8 uses!

Apparently it’s just one or 2 Samsung models that are configured in a way that won’t accept EE latest SIMs. And EE no longer produce the SIMs that do work.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for posting this. Sadly, have just fallen prey to the same nonsense. Plusnet did something to my wife's roaming data and suggested the best way to rectify matters was to transfer to EE. Very reluctantly and after 2 weeks of pretty appalling customer service, I accepted defeat and made the move. However, having sorted PAC codes etc, it now transpires that EE roaming data won't work either as my wife's phone is a Samsung S8. Plusnet have denied all prior knowledge of this issue so it was really handy to read the various posts here that suggest they have been informed previously and on more than one occasion. They are also now saying this is EE's problem, not theirs, and are unwilling to offer any further "help".

I'm escalating my complaint with Plusnet and the Communications Ombudsman and will let you know the outcome.

Good luck with escalating your complaint with Plusnet. They told me they would ring me back when I complained, they never did. I ended up without access to the internet for the best part of 3 weeks. I finally bought a new phone, having had a bad experience with trying to move to O2. EE were happy to charge me for data I couldn't use.  Have now discovered that a Lebara SIM works in my original phone and they give good deals.  For £15 per month with them you can get 30 GB of data and 500 minutes of international calls, as well as unlimited texts and UK calls.

Same issue.

My Samsung S8's mobile data is not working after transferring from Plusnet's EE service to EE.

EE just told me Samsung turned off the mobile data functionality and I have to buy a new phone!

Samsung said this is not possible!

Ombudsman here I come. Very annoyed also.

@emeritus55   Have you checked the APN setting are correct for EE.  This THIS   And Samsung can not turn this off.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

I had EE before with Plusnet and it worked so assume the APN settings were fine and yes, EE lied to me about Samsung turning it off 😞

@emeritus55 : My S8 has full mobile data functionality. Does your data work over WiFi?
