@paulbrown86   Batteries chemically age the more you charge them there’s nothing you can do about this what you can do though is don’t overcharge them ie  leaving them on charge overnight.

And try and charge them when they are below 20% and charge no more than 80%

Don’t use the device while it’s on charge as the device can build up heat ( that’s the battery getting hot zh ) and this can degrade the battery more.

What device is it ?  as difficult devices have different settings for charging.

Hello @paulbrown86

As Chris has said between 20% and 80%

However if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone they have settings where you can charge it to 80% only.

its the S23

Will take some getting used to as the back is glass, i Had the S21 before which was plastic back - will get a case though I think

Phone charging issues, huh? That’s one of those things that can range from being a minor inconvenience to downright frustrating, especially when you’re staring at a near-dead battery and nothing seems to be working. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a bad charging cable or a loose connection, but other times, it could be something more involved, like a software issue or even a hardware problem with the phone itself.

First off, if your phone isn’t charging at all, the cable or charger is usually the first thing to check. Even though they can look fine, cables can go bad in the most subtle ways—like a tiny fray inside the wire that you can’t see. And don’t even get me started on cheap third-party cables. They may work for a while, but they can be super unreliable. If you’ve got a backup cable or charger around, that’s a good way to rule out whether it’s the accessories or something with the phone itself. Also, make sure the charging port on your phone is clean. It’s amazing how much dust and lint can build up in there, especially if you keep your phone in your pocket or bag all the time. A quick blast of air or carefully using a toothpick to clean it out can sometimes do the trick.

If the hardware seems fine, you might be looking at a software glitch. Sometimes the phone just needs a reboot to reset the charging logic, especially after a software update or if the battery has been drained down to zero. Believe it or not, software can actually mess with how your phone reads the charger. And, on that note, check if there’s a software update available. Manufacturers occasionally push updates that fix charging issues, especially with newer phones.

Now, if your phone is charging, but it’s doing so really slowly, it could be the charger itself, especially if you’re using an older or less powerful one. Some chargers aren’t designed for fast charging, and while they’ll get the job done, it’ll take forever. If you have a fast charger and it’s still slow, check the charging settings on your phone. Some phones let you toggle fast charging on or off, and occasionally that gets turned off without you realizing it.
