@Eleanor-53 EE can not help you gain access to your device they don’t know the passcode. Your only option is a factory reset and if you don’t have a backup of the device you’ll loose all information on it.

Do you know if you have Remote Unlock enabled on your Phone?
If you have a Samsung Account login to here - https://www.samsung.com/uk/apps/smartthings-find/
If you haven't enabled Remote Unlock then as @Chris_B said it will be case of Factory Resetting your Phone which means you'll loose everything unless you've backed your Phone up.

If that isn't an option. Then to Factory Reset your phone log in with your Google Account by Going here - https://support.google.com/android/answer/6160491?hl=en-GB
It will give you a Guide.
