Hi @bill212

Thanks for coming to the community.

You can switch on subtitles on EE TV. Which box are you using?

Also applies ro EE boxes. This works for channels on the EPG, but how you get subtitles on apps varies. Generally, pause the programme, and navigate to a little speech bubble on the right just above the progress bar, where you can set them.

The bos is on the right rather than the left because it is well-known that users do not want to set subtitles until the programme is almost over. (At least, that’s what I glean from where they put it 😛)

The BBC iPlayer, in one of the worst bits of UI coding I have ever seen, says SUBTITLES ON or SUBTITLES OFF. This means’s the exact opposite of what it says,.

Interesting @Midnight_Voice  the Youview  Accessibility policy states

  • Audio Description and subtitles buttons on all YouView remote controls

so in reducing the number buttons on the  Box Pro remote they have deviated from that policy.

So whilst you can still toggle between subtitles on and off with a few remote presses  if you were not familiar with how to do it you would be none the wiser from simply picking up remote..

@zulu17

Correct. No doubt that is what led @bill212 to ask about them here.

SUB always shared a button with DEL, which I thought would be a recipe for disaster, but in fact wasn’t. And AD shared with the  UPSHIFT ⬆️. The third migrated button on the Box remotes, Zoom, had its own unique button on the curvy remote, and I don’t think I ever used it,

But yes, the Box remotes have gone a long way forward in most respects, but certainly backwards in one or two others.

Hello all and these replies are very helpful.

I have just switched from Sky to EETV and have TV box pro. I am not sure if anyone can help?

I am watching the GBN app and I cannot get subtitles. Tried the 3 lines button and pausing but says unable to pause live. It just means I go to Freeview. Why on earth are not all freeview channels available anyway.

I cannot use the remote to switch off the TV so have to use 2 remotes. Ok that I can live with that but it is annoying. I tried the Home 9 I saw elsewhere but that does not work.

Sorry I don't mean to rant as I do like ti so far, but I can see there are experts on here who might be able to guide me.

Thanks all.

Hi @tis30.

Welcome to the EE Community.
We don't offer GB News via IP mode at the moment, so in order to watch this you would either need an aerial connection or to use the app.

The features included within the app would be selected by GB News directly, and I can see a support option in there, so if they don't currently include the option for subtitles then this is definitely something worth raising with them directly.

Peter

Many thanks Peter.

Yes I am moving the source from HDMI and using freeview via the aerial in the building for this channel. I can get around it. I just find it odd that EETV does not have all Freeview channels. Anyway, I have a workaround and it is OK. Thanks again.

@tis30

GBN don’t seem to have subtitles anywhere live; not on their Freeview channel, nor on their app, at least, not on the EETV app.

Except that on my FireStick, GB News Home/Latest Catch Up has programmes which (when they’re not giving you ‘Invalid UVID’) have a CC option on the controls that appear when you Pause, and this gives you subtitles.

This is not an option that the EETV app provides, and perhaps we should wonder why not.

Anyway, EETV, on a properly set up Box Pro in Aerial Mode with a working TV aerial, can be found on Channel 236. This is on mux Arqiva B which covers 96% of UK households.

If you think you are using a Box Pro with an aerial, then I would surmise that you aren’t; that you set up the box in IP Mode, and later just plugged an aerial in. Which won’t make it switch modes; you have to Factory Reset it to do that.

So watch any recordings you have made and not yet watched, as you are going to lose them, Factory Reset it, retune it, and see if GB News now shows up on 236 for you.
