Use channel app versus same EE channel

I'm presently seeing out my SkyQ subscription and am exploring what life will be like as a cord cutter.

To that end I have purchased an "illegal" EE TV pro box and am using it as a Freeview device. While not as polished as the Sky product, I am liking the box very much so will continue along this path. When my Sky sub ends, I will have to decide whether to continue using the box as a Freeview box with apps or sign up with EE TV for the BB/TV service.

I find the EE sports package quite appealing and good value, but my main viewing would be Eurosport and Discovery car programmes, both of which come with this package. But I am reluctant as a potential cord cutter to sign up for another 2 year TV contract so am considering simply signing up direct to the Discovery+ app which is built into the box and viewing on that basis.

But what differences would I notice? Would both options have ads? Would both options be launched via the TV guide? Would the app be streaming only or could I record onto the box? Any guidance on here would be gratefully received, and I  mean no disrespect to EE TV by posting on here as I think they are offering a solid product.

Oh, and just in case somebody asks, I am a current BT BB customer!

I will try to find a link, but must admit, I find Reddit a bit of a rats nest, and far from user friendly! Allow me a day or two - but I am not optimistic.

Update - I have just had a rummage - no luck, there seem to be multiple blind alleys! Sorry!

This is going to sound harsh, but it isn’t intended to be I promise.

If you want the facts on getting the most out of EE TV, then you should focus your efforts and questions here where you have a group of existing customers willing to help that have been using the service in various forms for years.

If you are going to keep reading confusing rubbish elsewhere and then come back for clarification each time, then people will get bored and move on to helping others instead.

Phew! Managed to find it! Here is the link plus the actual post to save you too much reading. Not sure what you will make of it - the poster tells us everything and nothing! I guess you will just have to make some assumptions here...

"So got an EE Apple TV and can't see any difference apart from the EE TV app on it has a guide, on a non EE Apple TV it doesn't have the guide. The remote is different too.

The EE TV app shows the same version on EE Apple TV and normal Apple TV, so it must be something server side, ID wise or something that it is an EE Apple TV?

The only other thing, I went on the guide to on EE Apple TV and watched some sports. Then days later went back on the EE TV recordable box, went to sport channel and it said something like, you can't use on 2 boxes with subscription, so you want to on here instead?

So it only allows sports on 1 box at a time, and seems to be registered to a box? Anyone confirm this?

The box is much faster than my old HD Apple TV so that's a bonus suppose."

Good point, well made!

@snes

I don’t mind the confusing rubbish - perhaps I could post on the sub Reddit and bring some sanity - but without a link, who knows who really said what about what under what exact circumstances? 😢

But I keep an extra Box Mini so I can blow the multiple box limits at will - though I see that @Profile closed has found a way to do that with a non-EETV box, which would have saved  me the trouble - and you just accept the invitation to make that box the master, or a master, or whatever the terminology is - and move right along.

(Though I must try this while all the other boxes are actively watching the internet channels, see if the dialogue goes differently).

Other than that, we just have someone with a limit on simultaneous devices watching a certain sports subscription - nothing to see here, move right along 😛

No, it’s a forlorn hope trying to bring any sanity to that discussion 😢

@snes I am so glad you didn’t pick up on the idiot who said it only works over Ethernet, not WiFi. Well, duh. 😛

And a definite confusion of an (unnamed) sports subscription limit with the EETV devices limit.

If we have trained you well, you should be able to spot all the errors of fact in that thread. I found 15 without too much trouble…
