If I sign up for the Entertainment package will I be able to record channels like "Discovery" in Aerial mode or will I need to switch to Internet mode?

Many thanks.

Hi @Andys7

Yes, you will be able to record Discovery and the Now TV channels included with that subscription. All that is received via your aerial are the freeview channels, the subscription channels are delivered via broadband. In aerial mode you'll have the ability to record up to 2 freeview and 2 IP channels at the same time. If you switch to IP mode you can only record two and the included freeview channels are somewhat limited.

Thank you that is very helpful.

I’m sorry I seem to be jumping in half way through a thread. I’ve just signed up for full works package(not delivered yet), currently I’m with sky but wanted to cancel as they’ve been ripping people off for years and EE offer good deals. Having read through this the threads talking about aerial and ip modes, it all sounds very confusing as if I’ve ballsed up as sky is very slick and you don’t have to worry about this, when I set up it sounds like aerial mode is the way to go is this correct. What are you thoughts Andy was it a good move to bin sky for ee?

I am afraid I cannot help you, as I decided that the EE offering was not sufficient for my needs and went to Virgin Media.

Hi @Jack199011

When a customer first sets the box up there's the choice of Internet (IP) mode or aerial mode. This choice only affects how you receive freeview channels, aerial mode offers by far the widest choice of channels, lP mode offers a very limited choice indeed.

All subscription channels are delivered via the internet irrespective of whether you've selected IP or aerial mode, so for example if you set your box up in aerial mode,  ITV3 etc will come via the aerial and Sky Atlantic,  TNT etc will come via the Internet. As a customer,  you won't notice the difference.

You can record two IP channels at the same time and a further two freebies channels IF you are in aerial mode. In Internet mode you are limited to two simultaneous recordings only.

You can switch between aerial and Internet modes but you'll lose any recordings.

My advice would be to start with aerial mode.

That’s brilliant, thank you Andy, I hope it’s easier than these forums read 😖

If you are a fan of the Sky user experience then you are in for a shock. Comparing to Q, expect:

  1. The kind of UI the 90s would be proud of
  2. Less channels and apps
  3. Limited UHD content
  4. No voice control
  5. Less concurrent recording functionality
  6. No ability to share recordings on other devices such as mini boxes
  7. Failed recordings on a regular basis

Either negotiate harder with Sky or get yourself a Freeview PVR and go to NOW direct for cheaper and more flexible access to passes.

This was kind of the impression I was getting to be fair just reading, thank you for confirming I can see myself having to return to sky. I will have a play just as I’m curious as to how bad it is but it’s sounding like I won’t last my cooling off period, thanks for feedback
