New to EE TV - a few issues

I am trialling EE TV with a view to ending my 23 year relationship with Sky, and I can't say I'm too impressed so far.

Now, some of these may be fixable, and if so, any help appreciated.

1) Can't easily skip adverts on ITV recordings, although I realise this can be avoided if I use the box in hybrid aerial/internet mode.

2) on the iPhone/iPad app, there does not seem to be a way of watching channels like BBC1, Sky Sports, etc.

3) can't watch recordings on the app, or make them.

4) the mini-box seems to be a standalone device with no connection to main box, so no access to recordings etc.

5) the 'What's On now' live TV bar only highlights SD channels, so seems like a waste of time.

6) only seem to get surround sound from Sky channels, not on BBC1, etc.

7) if I select a programme to 'series record', all versions of the programme, e.g. on +1 channels, get recorded.

Any help or comments on this would be appreciate.  At the moment, I am thinking of returning to Sky.

@imacken

Several questions for you, but the standout one is how are you getting On Demand stuff from Sky on your setup without using the Now app?

And a small nugget of information; I’m playing a Sky Movie (Daddio) with Stereo Sound selected in the Now app settings, and the info at the top is saying 5.1. I guess it’s saying the movie has 5.1, rather than that it’s playing in 5.1

This is consistent either with not having Now Boost, or having it and not enabling 5.1 in the Now app settings.

Except you say you’ve never used the Now app (green square in the Featured Apps line on the Pro box Home Screen).

A mystery to be resolved….

So, after a couple of hours of experimentation, most issues are resolved.

Firstly, the Now channels stereo sound issues were resolved as I went into the Now app on EE TV to discover that there is another sound setting there which was set to Stereo.  Changing that to DD sorted that out.  As an aside, I am on the Boost pack.

I was still left with the AV receiver sending out DD 2.1 when stereo channels were being broadcast instead of my usual DPL when using Sky, Apple TV, Smart TV, etc.  I changed the EE TV box to HDMI input 3 from its previous 4, and for reasons I cannot explain, all is now well there too.  All stereo channels go to DPL, and DD 5.1 channels show as DD+ with 5.1.

One thing I can't work out is, how do I login to Now app on other devices?  My EE login is not accepted.

Good progress!

You will see that the things you have fixed are potential issues that I have described above.

For the ‘other devices’ issue, open the Now app on the Pro box, scroll across to settings, the gear wheel, and open it. Under ‘My Account’ you will see what you are signed in as (EE TV signed you in automatically).

Is this the Account information you are giving when you try to sign into the Now app on a non-EETV device?

So, this is becoming a mess.

In the Now app account settings, it shows an email address that is not correct. There is one character missing.

I am so reluctant to call 150 on this, as no doubt it will start a whole chain of events.

Stuff happens 😢

But I’m glad my suggestion explained it, even though it can’t resolve it.

I suggest we invoke @DarrenDev who seems to be able to fix stuff like this a lot easier and quicker and more reliably than 150.

In the meantime, try that wrong email address on Now on a non-EETV device, just to check that you can do what it should do. Trying this won’t make matters worse, if you’re worried about that, but be sure to  log out afterwards.

We may not be able to drag you from the clutches of Sky, but I’m determined that you don’t go back without at least getting an accurate appraisal of what EE TV can and can’t do 😛

Thanks again.

I called 150 and they put the correction into the system, quoting 10 days for it to be fixed!

Honestly, the problems I have had in the last 2 weeks with EE would fill a book, and I’m not talking about the operational stuff we’ve been discussing. There are 4 outstanding complaints, daily 1-2 hour phone calls, data integrity issues on my account, mistakes on billing, package, contracts, etc. I won’t bore you with the details!

To cap it all, the person I spoke to told me there are £300+ termination charges on my bill, which some team is trying to cancel out! It really is a pantomime.

I have broadband, 3 mobiles and TV with EE and I really wonder why I have gone down this route after the last couple of weeks.

I would love to know how to speak/contact a manager on this very sorry affair.

Sorry to hear of your issues @imacken - the teams are very busy, due to so many processes being manual at the moment.

I can fix your Now TV login issue no problem - just email me at tv.apps@ee.co.uk with your account number and the email address you'd like to use.

Ok, so after a month of EE TV, I just wanted to put my thoughts here, not that anyone will be interested!

General use is pretty good on the main box, but my main gripes all relate to recordings and the app.

1) It would be so good if EE could implement a mini-box that linked to the main box as I regularly record live sports events and used to go to watch the recordings on my mini-box (on Sky) so my wife could watch something elses on the main TV.  This I cannot do any more.

2) the inabilty to mange recordings, e.g. deleted ones, is sadly missed as well.  In the EE TV UI, it is quite easy to accidentally delete more programmes in a list and then they are gone forever.  Previously, I would be able to undelete.

3) the app, in my experience, is next to useless.  Can't watch any channels from the schedule- just get told to watch on main box by selecting xchaanel xxx! - and the record function has never worked.  Any time I try to record something, it just shows as 'pending', and that never changes.

4) I experience audio/visual stutters every minute or so on non-aerial channels on both boxes which is very annoying. Sometimes, a power cycle of the bxes helps for a while, but the issue always comes back.

So, pretty happy in general, but could do with improving.
