Moved from Sky to EETV, picture quality is bad e.g. channel 5 on demand

set up EE 500 broadband, and EETV. The picture quality is nothing like I had on Sky. The HD on demand channels are pretty bad. E.g Channel 5.

EETV just doesn’t seem to have as clear a picture as I had on Sky - yes I was paying £9 a month for HD. But this covered a lot of channels and all the On demand ones also.  Did anyone else have these issues and resolve them?

Thanks

Hi @Sooze27

Thanks for coming to our community.

Does it just seem to be picture quality that is affected? Have you spoken with our technical team about this yet? They may need to run some tests to see why this is happening for you.

The Channel 5 app is pretty low quality on most platforms to be honest, but what can be confusing if you move from Sky Q is that, on the Q platform there was (and still is), a large amount of on demand content that is not watched via an app, but downloaded in full HD and watched like a recording.

With EE TV, if you are using IP mode then Channel 5 content should be a priority for recording as all of the Channel 5 suite are available in HD.

Currently, Channel 5 do not offer an option to upgrade picture quality or skip adverts when watching via their app (although it is on the way I hear), but itvX and Channel 4 do. This does add about £100 a year to your costs though.

I've found the same, the picture quality on EE TV is poor much less sharper than on Sky.  I'm still within the 14 days cancellation period, so will be sending the boxes back and staying with Sky.

Hi there @Simone-Electra

Thanks for coming to the community.

Is this affecting all channels and apps? Have you been in touch with our broadband tech guides to get the picture quality looked into?

Thanks 🙂

Leanne.

You should get that looked at, while some of the apps leave a lot to be desired, the EE TV Pro box live channel quality is on a par with Sky Stream, and better than Sky Q due to the higher bitrates used.

I found the best mix was to use my TVs in built apps or our Apple TV 4K for app viewing (Netflix, Disney+ etc.), and set the Pro Box to output 1080p.

Just did exactly the same after being told yes it's 4k. Seems sales team are unaware that only 1 channel is uhd which is tnt sports ultimate. Same channel can also be viewed in HDR.

Cancelled after 5 mins of setup.

It Will support 4k in the future but who knows when? Needs to be 4k HDR before I even think about the swap again.

Sorry but sky q is in 4k HDR so EE pro box being 1080p is not up to the job.

Just cancelled mine as soon as looked at picture quality.

@Davidos12 I don't agree with you on the HD picture quality, I have both EE TV and Sky Q and my neighbour has Stream so I can borrow his box and compare picture quality directly.

HD on EE TV and Sky Stream is the same quality, Sky Q is slightly worse, this is due to higher bitrates used for streaming channels rather than satellite.

I'm not going to argue about EE staff mis-selling (or misunderstanding) what UHD is available on EE TV, they do it all the time and the community is full of similar posts, but a simple Google would have confirmed that. There is zero Sky UHD HDR content available currently through EE TV.

Still, at least you took advantage of the cooling off period, which is exactly what it is for if you are not happy with the service.
