Just changed over from sky tv to ee. We have been given a mini box for another room with our subscription. We’ve set it up but when we click on the channels just says we need to set up HD channels . We’ve already set up the ee pro box downstairs so why can’t we watch normal channels on the mini box? Seems a waste of time because most of the channels show as HD yet show the same message yet I don’t understand what I need to set up.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

It’s now just continually loading can’t back out of it seems stuck. I’ve unplugged it and tried again and same thing. What a load of rubbish this is. Glad it was free and that I’m not paying for it

That's definitely not a normal experience. Can you please confirm you have it connected directly to the EE Smart Hub, and not via any of your own home WiFi equipment? It'd also be worth trying a factory reset of the box.

I’ll try a factory reset

The reset has sorted it I think

Does the mini box have to be plugged into a router. It’s not connecting to tv upstairs via wps! Can I change back to sky with no issues this is ridiculous

It needs to be within 5 metres of your router, or a repeater, but it should be able to connect by WiFi if so. Though have you got very thick walls?
But it’s your router it should connect to by WPS, not the TV, which it connects to via the supplied HDMI cable, though. (Which is what I think you meant to say).
