Is it possible for you not to SHOUT, which is what ALL CAPS is, by convention?

And you say you have been messing with your TV, and lost the sound on it?

Which seems like an issue that would be more suitably addressed to a Community which supports your (unspecified) make and model of TV.

But let us have those details; maybe someone here has the same TV, or at least some useful insight.

It would also be very useful to know the steps you took to make your sound go away - something more drastic than just pressing Mute, presumably - and if anything other than your TV figures in this issue, like a device that is plugged into it which is where the sound should be coming from, or a soundbar or AV system that it is feeding, and where the sound should be coming out.

Try to think yourself into our shoes, and tell us everything relevant that may help us to help you.

Sorry if my text hurt your eardrums but I finished texting before I noticed the capitals so I just hit send.
Not mute related. Just got an ee tv box and the two remotes wouldn't totally pair. Ee remote did everything except volume control but my tv remote did this ok. My headphones which worked on my BT box would not work on the ee box despite having the same socket (SDPIF) in the same place on the back of the box. Phoned ee/BT helpdesk and went through all the set up stages again and tried various things which I had already tried and decided it was a remote fault or a tv fault and arranged a visit in a weeks time from ee/BT. They said the SDPIF outlet is now only for sound bars and surround sound. Not convinced it's a remote fault. I disconnected the tv from the ee box and plugged the aerial directly into the tv and still no sound so I imagine that rules out any ee box/ee remote faults. At this stage I surrendered.
TV is an Hitachi 55HK6100U F 4k in case anyone else has similar. I hope this is enough info.

Hi, thanks for your reply. That video is very basic and really just covers the set up procedure which I have repeated several times including pairing of remotes. The ee remote does everything except volume control. The tv remote turns tv on and off and for a few days actually performed volume control. Now no volume from either remote. EE/BT are sending someone out next week but if the problem is with the tv I'm not sure how far they will assist.

Hi, I managed to fix sound problem by hooking up tv direct to aerial so I could access the tv set up and found sound was connected to ARC. i don't know what this stands for but there was an option to change it to TV. I took the TV option and got sound back on TV. Hooked up to ee box again and sound was back there too. I still have to use the tv remote to control volume as it is still not working on the ee remote. The ee remote does everything except control volume, maybe the enginneers can fix this next week but I can live with that. The headphones problem took a twist, I got another email from ee/BT tech support. I was informed that the SPDIF socket on the ee box now has no function. It used to be for surround sound/soundbars etc. on the BT box but on the ee it is non functional. The email stated that the tech staff do not have enough training/knowledge of the ee box which suggest to me that ee went live too early as where else can customers turn?  I assume this means I cannot use my remote headphones as the ee box has taken over the tv functions so the outlet for ancillary devices on the tv won't work? Again I will ask the engineers next week but they may just address ee issues. Not much point in involving Hitachi as I believe they would only help with a stand alone tv, not one hooked up via a set top box.

Looking at my TV BOX PRO User guide, T2005-10 TDI V2 21/07/22, page 4 clearly delineates the SPDIF as ‘Used for connecting to some surround sound kits’ and references ee.co.uk/help for more information.

But follow that help link, and there is nothing relevant, and even putting SPDIF into a Help search gives no answers.

This is simply unforgiveable.

Even if things have changed - and perhaps especially if things have changed - a user of this User guide is entitled to still find an entry, and one that does what the User guide promises - provide more information.

But having said all that, an SPDIF outlet that did all that would be a bit of an odd fish. Better to use the HDMI Out to get the audio to the TV along with the video, and then, if an SPDIF is to be used at all, use the one on the TV to get the audio to whatever is going to play it, which will also cover broadcast audio on the TV and anything else plugged into it.

As to what you found with the audio, ARC is Audio Return Channel, and there will be one HDMI socket on your TV marked ARC, and this is intended for an HDMI cable that goes to the ARC In port of a soundbar capable of ARC.

And this is the best way to enjoy the audio from the TV, if you have such a soundbar.

But if you don’t, then a soundbar that connects to the SPDIF on the TV is the next best thing.

You switched from ARC on the TV, silent because you didn’t have an ARC soundbar set up properly, or didn’t have one at all, to TV, thereby (hopefully) making the audio come from the TV speakers instead.

What the Box Pro remote will control is a crapshoot, though, depending if it correctly recognises the Hitachi TV as one it can control or not. If you are now getting audio from the TV, even if you still have to use the Hitachi remote, I’d say quit while you are ahead 😛

And you are quite right about Hitachi. Given the mayhem you can cause to the audio on this TV depending on what sources you plug into it to provide audio, and what sinks (output devices like soundbars) you might connect to get the audio out again, Hitachi would want no input devices plugged in, no output devices connected, and would concentrate on whether a broadcast TV channel, played through the TV’s own speakers, and controlled by the Hitachi remote, was working or not; and if it was, would probably politely decline to help you with any third party kit.

Have you got a friend who does this stuff, and who spouts, and understands, all the semi-comprehensible stuff above? Get them on the case, and they will soon see you right.
