EE tv box pro doesn’t wake in the morning

Stevesb

since coming back to EE in May we have had nothing but problems with the TV boxes. We are now on box number 5 all with the same problem, in that when turned off at night ( about 9pm) when trying to turn back on in the morning the remote and switch on the front don't work, I have to do a quick power cycle ( unplug and plug back in the power jack ( less than 2 seconds) and then the remote will then work. But then we have to do the full set up including putting pass words in for ITV, BBC iplayer etc.

this doesn't happen if we go out shopping for few hours.

it is set up for smart standby. all software upto date.

Welcome to the Community, @Stevesb 😊

How exactly is your EE TV box plugged in, and have you also received new power supplies when boxes have been changed?

I've not come across this fault from customers or in three years of using the service myself, so it's odd that five separate boxes would all be affected.

My thought here was that it could be something linked with the power supply or socket, so it's worth trying to plug this in to a different outlet if possible.

It's worth checking your timings for deep sleep, too.

Peter

had new boxes with cables. on each occasion swapped out all the cables and power supplies,  even had a new hub on one occasion just in case.

power supplies plugged into different sockets no change. Power outlet output monitored for 24hrs, no obvious anomalies.

the box isn't ser for deep sleep, non of them were.

But even if it was, it would not explain why we would have to do a full set up from scratch each morning.

Stumped.

will see if an EE engineer can suss it out.

For this to affect 1 box is unlikely. For it to happen to 5 is impossible without some form of external influence.

Where are you installing the box? Could anything be pressing on the buttons either on the front or side of the box?

just a thought...

not the TV causing a lockup? - i mean I left sky stream for EE as an example. when my tv goes off my sky stream would lose its ability to detect the TV was 4K compatiable.

one test would be to unplug HDMI cable and literally leave the EE box with just power (and ethernet if you use that).

see if it crashes then. Could be the TV is doing 'something' to the HDMI CEC which could jamm/crash the box. if it doesn't crash, perhaps then try a different HDMI port, and or if your TV has it, change the HDMI mode. Example on my bravia I can switch the HDMI ports from standard/enhanced/enhanced with dolby vision. Standard = HD only, enhanced = everything else like 4K, eARC, VRR, ALLM etc and the one with dolby vision also enables Dolby Vision HDR. so try this also.

Ohservations  and speculative comment only

if I understand correctly - Box is set for Standby Mode - Smart

so Box will normally go into Deep Sleep mode if not in use for the deep sleep time you select to start and end

I would be inclined to set a  recording  on one of the FreetoAir channels during that deep sleep period   and see whether the box wakes up on its own accord to effect the recording and whether the box is it a normal state in the morning.

I imagine Youview/EETV would typically check overnight for any  updates/changes  -I wonder is there a possibility that that process is a contributing factor  and leaving the box in an inoperable state - given that several (5?) boxes experienced the issues then the box  itself is unlikely to be root cause so perhaps it is the ISP connection details that is causing an issue.
