I have bought a new LG 4k Oled TV. I have also subscribed to EE TV and have received the EE TV box Pro. It seems that the picture via the TV is very clear and crisp but there is a difference when viewed through the box. The picture through the box is fine and there are no issues as such. It's just that the TV is better. When watching older programmes such as Big Bang theory, the TV upscales it very well whereas the box doesn't. All the settings are correct. I have googled and it appears that the TV will be more superior at upscaling than the box. I spoke with the tech team at BT and after checking signal strength and quality on BBC and ITV it was 100% for both signal and quality. This prompted the adviser to book an engineer. The adviser stated they may need to fit a filter. My engineer visited and said all was okay with the signal strength and quality. He believed that the quality of the picture through the box should be the same as the quality through the TV. He therefore thought there may be an issue with the box and will request for it to be changed. I've googled again and read that as I have the aerial coming in to the box and then the aerial coming from the box to the TV then the signal is weakened. That the TV's sensitive tuner can deal with it but set top boxes can't and that may be the reason why the picture is crisper on the TV rather than through the box. One AI suggestion was to use a variable attenuator . I'm out of my depth now. My engineer said there was no issue with quality and strength issue. I'm confused now and wondered what to do next. Any thoughts? I'm using the HDMI cable supplied. The engineer changed the HDMI cable just to be on the safe side and changed the port. I did wonder whether buying a different high speed cable may help but AI said no.
Thank you.

Hi @Gill102
If you are watching Big Bang Theory on the TLC channel via a aerial SD channel then depending upon how much upscaling and where you will probably experience different end results.
For that content TLC do provide an HD channel on the BOX PRO if in IP mode rather than aerial mode.
The live TLC channel is also available on discovery+ app as are episodes on demand . Again the quality would be likely to br better than a freeview SD feed,
On the Box Pro the Home>Settings>Picture & Sounds>HDMI Display there are I think 5 settings ... depending upon what you select you will dictate what upscaling /downscaling the box attempts. Of course if you were to change it, you may feel you get better handling of the SD inputs but the higher quality feeds might be affected adversely.
TVs normally have a single aerial tuner feed that they focus on giving you the best picture results. The Box PRO as a recording device has to manage four possible aerial feeds. Variable attetuators can be useful if your Box is receiving too strong a signal (100% us the highest number it can report so if people experience picture breakup then reducing the strength can help.).
Other users with similar LG TVs using the BOX pro may be able to comment on their own experences.

.......too late to edit my earlier post but this thread touches upon some experiences with the box pro and LG TVs

Sadly not all the participants in that thread are still around.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and providing the information. I'm still finding my way around. I opened the discovery app and found Big Bang for example. I shall have a play with changing the box to 1080 etc but you do resent having to change formats and possibly going back and forth . I suppose it's the price you pay to be able to record and pause live TV. ( £20 per month currently.)

You can record and pause in IP mode on the pro box but only across 2 channels at once while watching the second due to ensuring that it is capable on all broadband speeds and the TLC channel is available on IP mode but others aren't.
With freely the other IP service coming with several new TVs, you can't record so hopefully this doesn't change with EE anytime soon.
