I have recently changed from BT to EE. I now have a black box to control my TV, but the box comes on itself quite often which starts the TV working. I have spoken to EE support and have been given a replacement remote control but I still get the problem.
There is no pattern that I can identify about when this happens. I see other comments on this Forum about what looks to be the same problem so I am not alone.
I do not like the idea of electrical equipment out of control. Potentially this could be a fire risk.
Is there anyone with a full solution to this?

Hi @JZW_2025
Thanks for coming to the community.
I can understand how frustrating, annoying and worrying this would be.
Have you noticed if there is a specific time window that it happens in overnight?
When you spoke to our guides, did they suggest to try resetting the box, or changing any of the settings such as putting it in deep sleep mode overnight?
Have you also tried removing the HDMI cable overnight to see if the same thing happens?

Michael
Thanks for responding.
The following is a summary of times that the box switched on by itself. As you will see there is no apparent pattern.
The guide (who was very helpfull!) checked the software version, but did not suggest the deep sleep mode.
I'll try unplugging the HDMI cable, but it will take several days to prove that this solves the problem as it only occurs at random intervals which could be days. None of the occurances are overnight, I would have seen the TV on first thing if it was.
Summary follows, thanks
Jon

Is there anything else connected to the TV, that could be waking it up? A games console? Other set top box? Removing the HDMI cable between the TV Box and the TV will at least prove whether it's the TV Box causing it to wake. Another possibility is an interaction between the TV Box and other devices connected to your TV - e.g. I know that having an Amazon Fire Stick connected to the same TV did have an issue at one point, sometimes resulting in a pink screen when the TV was turned on.
Deep sleep is only useful if you want the box to completely shut down when you're not using it - it does mean it'll take longer to start up each time you do use it though.

Yesterday evening ( 20:10 TV box on unexpectedly. Switch off.) it did it again. Still with HDMI connected. I have unplugged the HDMI cable now and will use good old fashioned aeriel input for a while and see how it goes. There are no other devices plugged into the box or the TV.
I have noticed that this only occurs when I have a laptop PC switched on and on the WiFi network. After finding that the remote used bluetooth (after my first contact with the guide some weeks ago) I disabled bluetooth on all of my PCs (I often have two switched on) but the fault has occured many times since then. I don't use any bluetooth devices so this is no inconvienence. There have been numerous updates to Windows 11 and I wonder if as part of the update sequence bluetooth is being transiently enabled then turned off again as my settings. Even if this does happen I would expect the TV box to ignore any thing other than the remote control it is paired with.
I will need to wait for several days to say that the fault is caused by my TV HDMI connection as it could be OK for a couple of days before.
Anything else I can try? If not I'll let you know how it goes................

Hi, we switched to EE last month and just this past week or so we’ve had this issue.
Have been woken up by the TV switching on and it’s spontaneously switched on when I’m sat in the same room.
No other devices connected and no TV ariel connected. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

I've already asked for someone to investigate this further, just in case there's a regression (we had this bug on the TV Box a few years ago). Post your TV Box serial number in the chat, and I'll ask them to check your box too @MartinSkel

My TV Box serial number is 112147 2513001237. After unplugging the HDMI cable I have seen the TV box light up unexpectedly at a time when I had no other devices apart from my EE Router turned on, so this seems to eliminate my possibly theory about interferance over BlueTooth from another of me devices.
I have found other referances to this phenomana on the Internet so I don't appear to be alone with this problem.
At the moment I have the HDMI cable disconnected so cannot use the extra facilities provided by EE.

Have just got an EE box after having a BT one and ours is doing the same.
