How do these latest EE boxes compare to dtr 2100? Are they faster? Do they have more apps, are there things not as good?

Made by Sagemcom rather than Humax, definitely faster and support more apps and features than the older boxes.

Ultimately they are the current hardware and development is focussed on them, as there are hardware and software limitations on the older Humax boxes.

As @Profile closed says, faster and better, and that’s where the action is now.

On the downside, the remote is short a few buttons, so you have to learn some unintuitive keypress actions to replace them. On the upside, the remote is Bluetooth, so doesn’t need line of sight, and pairs with its box, so you can run two of these side by side and not have the remote working the wrong one.

On the upside, you just pair the remote with the Box Pro while that is connected by HDMI to the TV, and it will suss out the make of TV and program itself for it. On the downside, if it doesn’t recognise your TV, you’re stuck - nothing you can do about it, except go back to an older IR remote, which does still work it.

There’s no SCART output or phono outs on the new box. Besides the HDMI, though, there’s an S/PDIF that might work,

Factory Reset has now been joined by a Keep Recordings option. No more scrabbling for Maintenance Mode.

I’m sure there is other good stuff I have missed - more simultaneous recordings, WiFi connection, HDR and Atmos (but no Dolby Vision), but this and the few other downsides don’t stop this being a big improvement over previous boxes.

When you say you can use an older IR remote do you mean you can use a dtr 2100 remote on the new EE box?

@Grimble37

Yes I do.

And all the buttons work? Been using these for about a decade, I'd probably prefer to carry on if I could especially as the new one sounds a bit of a pain.

Pretty much as far as I remember (I just use the latest one now), but part of the fun is testing! 😁

Just remember it is IR and needs the line of sight while the newer version is Bluetooth.

Well, after many decades of pointing a remote at something I'm sure I'd probably still do that with a Bluetooth one! My main motivation is because my dtr is frustratingly a bit sluggish, also maybe the 4k will be better but my TV may not support that, I do like that it has 4 tuners as just last night I was unable to record a 3rd programme.

Yeah, muscle memory, I get you, I keep changing the channel rather than the volume as the buttons on the EE remote are the other side to the ones on my Apple TV 4K.

If you are plugging in an aerial it remains a very competent Freeview Play style box. Set it to 1080p output for normal viewing, iPlayer will still output HLG HDR if your TV is compatible.

It sounds like you're saying to turn off 4k, surely I am misunderstanding?
