Apple TV 4K | Streaming Only

Since upgrading from an EE TV set-top box (which can be used to record series or live television) I am disappointed that the ability to do the same on Apple TV 4K is not possible.

In the age of streaming and traditional linear television in decline, the absence of recording programmes for future playback seems short sighted; some programmes and the ability to rewatch at a later date are usually constrained by dates that said programme becomes unavailable to stream is frustrating as if you had been able to record the programme you could re-play it at your convenience.

Also, considering Apple TV 4K has internal storage for apps and content is yet another sign that perhaps, the future of streaming; is streaming.

Thoughts?

@Original21  That’s nothing to do with EE it’s an Apple device.  The thing is with the Apple device you can install apps that are not available on the EE TV pro box/mini box.  it is a streaming device as that’s what Apple created.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Absolutely correct you are - but the EE app and it’s inner workings are creates and managed by EE.

Surely they [EE] could implement a DVR service within their app?

Would be a neat feature to have, agreed?

I can send a record command to my TV Pro box from the app. But I rarely bother. I don’t record anything these days. I haven’t even turned the box on for weeks. My own Apple TV gets more use.

Or are you suggesting a recording service on your phone? Hope you have plenty of storage in that case.

I think you put your finger on it.

If you wanted to record, then you could (and should) have gone for the Box Pro, not the Apple TV,

Each has strengths and weaknesses (you might have noticed a certain dearth of Freeview channels on the Apple TV, and a certain dearth of Disney+ and other apps on the Box Pro, and so on) and the choice is yours.

You can even swap now, if you ask EETV nicely.

Shoehorning a 500 Mb hard drive into an Apple TV as an afterthought presents several practical difficulties 😢

American services offer cloud recording and apparently Sky Stream does the same for some channels with a playlist, where the catch up apps aren't available.

You need to look at the pros and cons for each device before you take the plunge.

I hardly ever record but I use an old BT youview box just incase I do, which I acquired from a third party website but trying to cut down the clutter in future.
