I have received a phone call, supposedly from EE, stating that they are swapping from 4G to 5G on Friday and that I habanero being sent a new SIM and the old one will not work after Friday. Impossible to speak to anybody on EE app so wondered if anybody else has heard of this

Hi,

I've had 2 calls over last 2 days from 07544 021595 and 07725 476437 - hung up both times but exactly the same, trying to get a new SIM sent to me saying my current one is old and not working properly....

Same, and I got caught, they first asked for my email address and then I got an email with a code for password reset. Stupidly didn't read the email, just gave them the code. And then I got two messages with passcodes signing up for two-factor authentication. Stupidly gave them the first one (they asked twice, had to repeat it), and I'm not sure whether I gave the second or not now. But at that point I got very suspicious and hung up. I didn't get an email informing me that my password got changed and I could still log in with my old password later in the day, so I think they somehow failed. When I was logging in later that day, though, it asked me to set up 2-factor authentication but it didn't work. This was four days ago, today it did work. I called ee, they confirmed it was a scam but couldn't see any orders, hope they failed to log in. Changed password just in case, though, and it's disconcerting not knowing what they tried to do and what they managed.

What was strange was that when I went on to report this via 150 (after changing my password), the emails with security codes came from exactly the same email address the scammers used.   I checked my account and  under ‘orders’ I found a SIM card, broadband and phone.  I had no order numbers or emails about these.  So contacted EE again - they said there were no orders on my account!  But I can still see these three things there.  I am keeping a close eye on my bank and credit card accounts.  So far so good.

I have similar, but thought it was just an odd EE website error -- I have orders showing (broadband, though when I click on "track order" it says "no active orders", and "pay monthly phone", with a line underneath saying "pay as you go phone or ee sim card. Your order should be delivered within 1 to 2 working days" and when I click on "track order" it asks for order reference and phone number or email). When I called 150 they spent ages looking but said they could not see any orders on my account. They oddly also asked my password, which I refused to give -- I thought companies could never see the passwords that people put in. Please let us know if anything else happens or they take money somehow, I'll also be keeping an eye on my accounts and cards.

Just had a weird one. From a London number. An Indian woman saying all old SIM cards are being cancelled due to problems and complaints and I'm being sent a new SIM card to arrive tomorrow as my card stop working in a couple of days. No request for information from my side. Didn't ask for passwords or payment details. Just telling me I'm getting a new card.

Very suspect.

Hi @Eddief70

Welcome to the community.

You are right to be wary on this one, as we wouldn't call to replace the SIM.

Did you catch the number that the call came from?

02081445177. Says a London number. And as expected no SIM card has arrived. Not that I intend to put the thing, if it exists,  in anyway.

Thanks @Eddief70. That isn't a number we'd use.

You can see the genuine numbers that may call you from EE or our Direct Partners on our website.

It may be nothing but I would recommend speaking to our customer service guides so they can check the account to make sure that there has been no access or changes to your account.
