EE sending me a new SIM? Scam?

Donhay
Visitor

Just had a call claiming to be from EE. Said due to “recent merger” I would receive new SIM in next few days but would retain existing number and nothing else would change.
Then started asking for ID confirmation.
Didn’t feel right so ended the call.
Anyone else had this?

Number calling was 0203 885 1875

Hi @J-2

Thanks for letting us know about this.

That does sound a little suspicious, so you've done the right thing in trusting your instincts.

We wouldn’t usually call out of the blue asking you to change your SIM. A SIM swap would normally only be suggested if there’s a known issue with your current SIM or you’ve recently upgraded and received a new SIM.

I’ve checked the number you mentioned against our known EE and Direct Partner contact numbers, and it’s not listed — so it’s best to treat this as a potential scam and reporting the number was the right move.

If you ever get an unexpected call like this, don’t share any personal or account details, even if it sounds convincing. Hanging up and contacting EE directly is always the safest route
