EE sending me a new SIM? Scam?

Donhay

Just had a call claiming to be from EE. Said due to “recent merger” I would receive new SIM in next few days but would retain existing number and nothing else would change.
Then started asking for ID confirmation.
Didn’t feel right so ended the call.
Anyone else had this?

Number calling was 0203 885 1875

Hi @J-2

Thanks for letting us know about this.

That does sound a little suspicious, so you've done the right thing in trusting your instincts.

We wouldn’t usually call out of the blue asking you to change your SIM. A SIM swap would normally only be suggested if there’s a known issue with your current SIM or you’ve recently upgraded and received a new SIM.

I’ve checked the number you mentioned against our known EE and Direct Partner contact numbers, and it’s not listed — so it’s best to treat this as a potential scam and reporting the number was the right move.

If you ever get an unexpected call like this, don’t share any personal or account details, even if it sounds convincing. Hanging up and contacting EE directly is always the safest route

just had a call claiming to be EE and needing to update my SIM due to the merger, sent me a very convincing txt message with a one time code and also a number if a fraud was suspected tagged into it 03301234150 (which is a real no), when I asked if I could do this via my login she mumbled incoherently (Indian accent) and insisted she would send me a QR code, but thought no thankyou as I upgraded via eSIM previously which threw her, she then claimed I was having connection issues with my phone to which I am not so hung up.

She called from London No 02039053831, if you call it says end destination cannot be reached contact administrator in a pre recorded message.

Hi.

Yes, I've just received a call claiming to be EE, on a mobile number with a very poor English speaking Indian, difficult to fully understand him.

He told me that they are upgrading the SIM cards but everything will stay the same, wanted to send me a text message that I would have to confirm I had received and to confirm agreement for new SIM.

I told him it was highly a suspect call from a mobile, I'll not confirm anything and hung up.

I suggest everyone does that and contacts EE to verify with them directly about changing any SIM cards.
