EE sending me a new SIM? Scam?

Donhay
Visitor

Just had a call claiming to be from EE. Said due to “recent merger” I would receive new SIM in next few days but would retain existing number and nothing else would change.
Then started asking for ID confirmation.
Didn’t feel right so ended the call.
Anyone else had this?

Number calling was 0203 885 1875

Just had a similar call yesterday from the number 01223 380666 saying due to the recent merger between EE and BT there have been numerous complaints about poor signal and data; they would like to upgrade the sim.

I’ve just had a call from the same number, I didn’t answer, but recent posts on ‘Who Called Me’ made me suspicious too.

This is a scam. The woman I spoke with was very convincing. I actually thought I was being pedantic asking her to prove she was ee.

When I called ee is surprised to find it was fraudulent. Luckily I didn't proceed but I might well have.

Welcome to the Community, @June26.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this, too!

Whilst some customers with older SIMs from will need replacements in order to benefit from 5G+, we're not proactively ringing people about this, and it's not anything to do with BT.

Just to be safe it's always best not to share anything at all in the way of details, and if you're the slightest bit of suspicious, end the call and ring back via the details on our website.

Don't forget to report this as a scam call if you haven't already, too 😊

I received a call from 08443585914 claiming due to the new EE & BT merger I am receiving a new sim in 1-2 days via DPD. She then asked me for my email address and home address and said she will confirm it against my details. When I said you called me you verify my details with me she put the phone down. Her name was Jenny and she left 5 VM's
