Calls from similar number

Hi.. today I received a call from a very similar number to mine just a couple end digits off.. the guy said he was returning a call I just made to him (which I hadn't) and then I told him I had not called him and he said OK no worries bye.

Thinking this was an anomaly of some sort I went on with my day.. then when I was away from my phone around an hour later another different number very similar to mine I have a missed call from.. no message left. 

I am not sure what the scam could be here..is someone else somehow using my number to call people?

Same for me, it's driving me crazy to get these nuisance calls every day and week without fail. I have so many blocked numbers now. Please provide a better solution EE!

I have had this issue for the last 48 hours. I have been called from 7 different numbers, all starting with the exact same 7 digits, which are identical to my own. Its only the remaining 4 digits that sometimes change. To emphasize, this is 7 different phone numbers. I've had over a dozen calls from different iterations, but refusing to answer any. 

Does anyone know what kind of scam this is meant to be, or what can be done to stop it? 

Do I block every number?

Had exactly the same happen since yesterday, except it's the last 3 numbers that are different every time. I don't answer unknown numbers and have blocked them as they appear but it's a real nuisance! Please sort it, EE.

Unwanted marketing calls and number spoofing (where nuisance callers and criminals deliberately alter the caller ID) are problems that affect users of all mobile networks.

Me too!! received 10 calls from a v similar number to mine, (abt 10 over a couple of days)

I pick up and the call lasts around 5 seconds at most until person on the other side hangs up. The only noise that can be heard is 'general movement' **bleep** is going on. deffo getting sketch vibes cant lie might switch providers cos tbf this has happened too many times b4 😕

I have numerous friends on different networks who this is happening to, it is not just an EE problem.

It is pretty easy to pick out some mobile numbers from e.g.  a local trade magazine and phone the numbers either side of it to cause a nuisance.  I have no idea what the perpetrators are getting out of it or indeed how it can be stopped.

Same thing has been happening to me today! 5 missed calls from numbers with the exact same as my number apart from the last 3 digits!

This has been happening to me for months. Most of them I decline but the ones I do answer it's just silence and then they hang up.

I've seen they've said nothing to worry about but something dodgy has definitely gone on for me to get 2/3calls a day from a number 3 digits off my own.

I also can't block all calls from unknown numbers due to work people I don't have get in contact regularly and very rarely do the numbers get picked up as being spam by my phone
