Calls from similar number

Hi.. today I received a call from a very similar number to mine just a couple end digits off.. the guy said he was returning a call I just made to him (which I hadn't) and then I told him I had not called him and he said OK no worries bye.

Thinking this was an anomaly of some sort I went on with my day.. then when I was away from my phone around an hour later another different number very similar to mine I have a missed call from.. no message left.

I am not sure what the scam could be here..is someone else somehow using my number to call people?

Hi @BbeckyN,

Welcome to the EE Community.

I'm sorry to hear you have received a malicious call. I'd recommend blocking the number and if direct threats have been made against you or your family, you should report it the police.

For more tips on dealing with malicious calls, please see How to block unwanted calls and texts?

I blame the Facebook hack, millions of phone numbers have been leaked. Check whether yours has been on https://haveibeenpwned.com/ - it might explain the increased activity of scammers lately.

I have recently started receiving several calls from people claiming they have a missed call from me. These all seem like ordinary people, not scammers, and none of these ‘missed calls’ come up on my call logs. Any ideas?

In the last 4 days I have received 8 calls from mobile numbers very similar to mine. They are exactly the same as my phone number apart from the last 3 digits, which are different every time. Every time I block one, it happens again.

Has this been happening to anyone else?

I am receiving calls from people stating they are returning my call. I have Googled my mobile number and it appears somewhere in India is using my number to ring people. Thankfully I am not being charged for these call. How can I stop this from happening?

All day today I have been receiving phone calls off random numbers saying they have just had a missed call off me when I haven’t called them? Why is this happening?
