Hi.. today I received a call from a very similar number to mine just a couple end digits off.. the guy said he was returning a call I just made to him (which I hadn't) and then I told him I had not called him and he said OK no worries bye.
Thinking this was an anomaly of some sort I went on with my day.. then when I was away from my phone around an hour later another different number very similar to mine I have a missed call from.. no message left.
I am not sure what the scam could be here..is someone else somehow using my number to call people?

Operative word here being Think. There is no evidence that this is not a serious matter. It is a security issue and more than likely will cause compromise of personal data on the phone. My number is under EE but originally from O2 many moons ago. What is situation of other people here ?

@rhiannarodd should not have to change her number @Jon_K !
There are many of us receiving these calls and it’s a blatant security compromise.
I have had my number for 24 years. Talk this matter seriously and get to the bottom of the issue. The calls I received are, for the first 9 digits identical; then only the last 2 digits changed. I have saved screenshots of these.

I've had a sudden spate of spam and nuisance calls to our landline in the past 7-10 days - this is not an EE or BT landline. Also one similar call to my EE mobile, but nowhere near the double-digit volume my landline has received.
Scam & nuisance calls are an industry-wide problem that affects customers of all fixed & mobile networks.

This has happened to me three times too, starting in February. Same number as mine just the last three digits differed, and they were different each time. I didn’t answer them. What is going on? I’ve never had scam calls on my mobile before.

Hi @Camellia.
Welcome to the community.
I'd recommend blocking these numbers where possible.
If this continues, you'll have the option of changing your number if you wish to do so.

What is the point of blocking a number when the last three digits change each time?
I’ve had my phone number for over 20 years. Changing it would be extremely inconvenient. A very unhelpful recommendation. And what is to say a new number wouldn’t be afflicted with the same problem. Or is it just a batch of numbers? I was on tmobile before, similar to a previous poster.
i wonder what’s coming next as this phishing, or whatever it’s called is for a purpose. How many people will be scammed
This problem seems to be widespread in the EE Community, judging by the number of comments on this post. You are going to lose a lot of customers, if you don’t take this seriously.

Have been with EE for years too and I’m really really disappointed with their responses to this.

All networks are having this problem if you look at their forums and twitter feeds.
What would you like EE to do? The calls are originating from abroad usually, with spoofed caller ID. There's no short term fix for this.
