Hi. I have a pay monthly phone plan with a physical sim card. Can I change to an esim and use the same esim/number on my samsung galaxy smart watch or would I need 2 separate esims, one for phone one for watch?
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

You would need a separate plan to use a cellular watch when your phone is in a different location as this is an additional service. If your phone is on your person, it will just use Bluetooth to provide this functionality with no need for a plan.
The watch plan functions independently of your phone SIM, which can remain as a physical SIM with no need for an eSIM. It carries its own mobile number for billing purposes as pointed out by @Schockwave, but is linked to your mobile number at an account level to make and receive calls and texts from your main number.
This is known on EE as a Paired Watch Plan and is usually priced at £7pm. It can be set up through your Wearable app and once purchased it will download the eSIM profile to your Watch.
If you are on an Essentials Plus, All Rounder or Full Works plan taken on or after 29th August 2024, a 100% discount would be automatically applied making this come at no extra cost.

You can change your physical SIM card ta an esim, your watch has its own sim for account purposes and you link the watch to your phone, so the number for the galaxy watch is just for account purposes.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.. As I have an esim available on both the phone and watch does that mean I need a separate, paid for, esim on each item? I ask as I was hoping I could have the esim on the phone and use that number/account on the watch for when I am out running and not able to carry the phone..

@AlanTC , as I wrote, your watch has its own sim for account purposes and that enables your watch to work without the need to take your phone with you, you should have a watch app where you set it up on your phone to work when out and about, at least that is how it works with Apple products and am sure it must be the same for the make you are using. You should be able to find the guide for it with explanation how to set it up, unless someone else has the answer who has the galaxy.
