I have just received a new replacement phone for my damaged phone, I have backed up the new phone from I cloud but it won't transfer my number to the new phone. I had a e sim on old phone

Hi @mrwallie.
When setting up your new iPhone are you prompted to set up your eSIM? this can be found in the Choose a Data Plan screen in Quick Start.
