Which number to use when registering as a new user?

Hi

When I ordered my new SIM (I'm new to EE) I set up an account and I was prompted to give the PAC from my old provider and the phone number that I wanted to be ported across from Sky to EE.

I've inserted the new SIM and restarted the phone, installed the EE Android app, and have tried to log into the app using the account username and password I created when I ordered the SIM, but the app shows an error and says it's not available now, to retry later. Fair enough, I can do that.

I was also instructed to register the device on the EE website. When I try to do that, it asks me for the phone number of my device.  I don't know if I should enter the phone number on the EE SIM I was sent, or the phone number from my old supplier that I am expecting to be ported across (given that EE have already been given all that information, so they know the number that I will be using long-term).  And I don't know if I need to do anything, e.g. register, before the number will be ported. At the moment it hasn't been ported.

I've moved provider many times but never used EE before. It's the first time I've been asked for the PAC and original phone number BEFORE the SIM was sent to me. So I don't know if this means that EE have got it all in hand, or if I'm supposed to do anything to trigger the porting. At the moment I can't see anything on the app because it won't let me sign in, and I can't see much on the website because it says I need to register with a phone number, but it doesn't say which phone number to use. So I'm a bit confused.

But....wow...instant WiFi calling as soon as I put the new SIM into my Pixel 6. Which is fabulous. I think this is going to be good, but I just need to get started 🙂

I sensibly decided to phone EE.

The answer was that I needed to use the number of the EE Sim that I've just received. When my old number is ported across, it will replace that number on my account. But I think that the customer service agent registered me while we were on the phone, because I was already registered the next time I logged in.

The number porting will occur automatically, as they already have my PAC/number details, I don't need to do anything.

The android app hadn't worked when I just entered my username and password, but it did start working after I'd been registered on the website.
