Transfer esim to a new iPhone in the us

Hi,

Firstly apologies if this has been covered before. I’m just after some clarity.
My partner and I both now have ee esims in our iPhones. We will be in New York at the start of next year and intend on buying new phones at an Apple Store whilst we are there. Are we able to transfer the esims to our new phones during the set up process Instore (whilst roaming on a us network) or do we have to wait to do it when we’re back in the uk and on the ee network again?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Hi @Matt_W,

I believe you will need to wait until you are back in the UK.

It is risky, since if the transfer fails for some reason and your old phone loses the eSIM, you will be left without a usable phone until you are in the UK and connect it to the EE UK network.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi @Matt_W

Thanks for coming here.

We do advise for any SIM transfers and registrations to be completed in the UK on the EE network as we are unable to guarantee this would work for you when roaming.

Thanks 🙂

Leanne.

Thanks @Leanne_T  and @Alex_M  for your sound advice.

So worst case if the transfer doesn’t work is i’m left with a new and old iPhone with just wifi access during my 5 day trip and then ee will be able to fix the esim on the new device when I’m back in the uk?

Hi @Matt_W

If there is an issue with your SIM transfer our team will be able to look into this on your return.

Katie

Thanks @Katie_B I appreciate you responding.

It seems a bit of a risk overall so I’ll likely take the safe option and do it when I return 😂
