Sim card 'unknown number'

Looking for technical support.

I believe it is an account issue, but for sake of info device is a Samsung a05s, recently updated , otherwise working fine.

Around 28/05/2025, my simcard on Monthly Contract read as 'emergency only' in the phone notifications header and 'unknown number' in 'sim manager' menu.

Device unable to place calls or access data

Ordered replacement sim for monthly contract, fitted sim 31/05/25 same error.

Phone detecting sim, sim appears to be in 'unknown number' state, hence emergency only, no data.

Purchased EE sim PAYG 02/06/25.

Phone working faultlessly with both sim card slots, when tested individually with an ee PAYG sim and another network's sim.

Currently using EE PAYG sim in slot 2, replacement, but still faulty, monthly contract sim in slot 1.

It doesn't appear to be a device issue auto detecting or selecting appropriate EE access points/operators as faulty sim shows same as working EE PAYG sim

Adding that I've restarted the phone and checked for updates over the course of the last few days

FYI you have a short time after posting to edit, negating the need to reply with corrections.

If the PAYM SIM fails to work in both SIM slots, where other SIMs all register, that's clearly a SIM or account issue.

Not sure what you mean by "unknown number state", but unless the phone shows network coverage on the relevant SIM (or will work with WiFi-calling), then inability to use network-based functions is a natural consequence.

An attempt to use WiFi-calling also uses EE's core network and thus needs the same connection as using the radio network.
