24hours is a tad misleading.
Your new EE SIM will have a temporary number assigned when you first receive it. If a PAC was supplied as part of the order, that will be submitted when you first activate the new SIM onto EE's network.
A port-in date will be set then, usually the following working day. This assumes activation during normal working hours - if during the evening, add an extra working day to these timescales.

@Colstalex , if you are moving from one network to another, it usually takes 24 hours to complete, and you would get a text saying so, and the card from the old network will stop working once completed and you would need to put the SIM card from EE in your phone, once it has been completed you will receive a text, but you would have a temporary number until it is completed and once completed, you need to reboot your phone.

I wondered when the 24 hours starts, when you put the new SIM card in your phone or a certain number of days after they send the sim
