Moved to America and need to "unlock phone" to get US sim working. How?

Hi

I've just moved to the states and I went to get a new SIM card/US number because my UK sim doesn't really work here. I was told by the US phone company that in order to get my new sim to work I need to get EE to unlock my phone somehow. I cannot so far get ahold of anyone and the robo-chat said I should dial  *#06# to get an IMEI code to do this. So I try it and whoops! Computer says no.

Any idea of how to get around this?

Cheers

You can just apply for unlocking by using the Unlocking your device form and giving its IMEI no., which you can obtain be dialling *#06# into its keypad.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC => 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC => 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC => 2022: EE 80 Meg FTTC (no landline number)

cheers- giving that a go but now I am being told I will have an "unlocking expert" call me within a week. Was hoping it would be a little simpler than that but oh well...
