I use SMARTY, but they don't provide anything except whatever my AOSP-derived OS classifies as 3G (rather non-specific, considering the myriad implementations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G#Overview lists) where I live. Consequently, I want to try some other providers, notably EE, but see no way to merely evaluate my ability to connect without paying.

Actually, @XRaySpeX, I'm able to use 4G (LTE and LTE+) with it, but considering that I haven't paid anything, I have no idea why I'm able to nor how much I'm able or allowed to use. Can you explain this?

Your new SIM will have a small amount of data (50MB) available to use to help you get set up before purchasing a pack.
