How do i switch to a Sim Only with EE but retain my number?

I have just been instore and they were pushing for me to upgrade my contract that is already £70 a month, didnt want to help with any blue light discount or any questions i had just kept urging me to upgrade my Pixel 8 Pro that i have on contract until October 25 (was a 2 year one)

I just want to switch to a Sim only unlimited Data when my contract ends in Oct but every avenue with EE i attempt i just get bombarded with upgrade or it treats it as an "Additional" contract and my dashboard on the App says it cannot display my details and to check back later

I must be getting old i just cant seem to navigate this site :(! Any help would be greatly appreciated

With O2 many years ago it was just a case of Login, select the plan, confirm. Done.

As you are still in contract on your phone plan, you would likely not see an option for SIM Only upgrades at the moment until you are in the last 30 days of your minimum term and this will then take effect once your minimum term expires.

But as for the correct way of doing this, EE still coin it as an "Upgrade" to move from a Device Plan to SIM Only - that is the term they use irrespective of whether it is an upwards move or not from a price or device perspective.

Easiest way to read "Upgrade" on EE is as a change of price plan, as it does not necessarily mean an 'up'-wards move.

If you are looking to make changes to a price plan on one line of your account, it is always through the Upgrade route, regardless of whether you intend to actually go up or down.

Thankyou very much Matt i really appreciate your response 😄 Makes sense on the "Upgrade"

I will wait out on the last 30 days and see what i can do from there.

Just to add to Matt's comments, there is a subtle difference between a device "upgrade" and a change-of-plan "upgrade" where the process & timelines are concerned.

You are able to upgrade 30days before the end of your minimum-term, and in the case of a device upgrade - the new plan & device are made available to you immediately. If you are plan-changing "upgrading", you can give instructions to change to your SIM-only plan during the same 30day window. However, the plan change will remain pending on your account and be actioned on the same day your minimum term ends.

Brilliant @bristolian,

Thanks for adding that part, I zoned in a lot on the SIM Only side of things

Always good info to have for whatever course of action the OP wishes to take around that time. a lot can change in a few months!

Hope this all helps @Erima, and all the best 🙂

Thankyou Bristolian,

What would be the best method of conducting this "Upgrade" when im within the 30 days?As the website for me on most of my options says it cant get that information and to check back later when they have resolved it

I really dont want to go In-Store. The staff there were ridiculously standoffish and unhelpful.

You can request a price-plan change either online or by contacting EE-CS on 150 - which you use is entirely your preference, with a slight hint of how well the website is feeling at the relevant time.

If you choose to call in, I would personally suggest avoiding use of the word "upgrade" and refer to "change payment plan to SIM-only" - just to avoid confusion with the "new phone" version of "upgrade"
