Convert a physical SIM to an eSIM abroad

Can anyone advise if it is possible to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM when roaming abroad?

I am overseas (Australia) and will be for the foreseeable and my new handset does not support dual physical SIMs. As I’ve found most new phones sold in Australia do not come with dual physical SIMs slots. They do support dual sim but that boils down to 1 physical sim and one eSIM.

The instructions to convert on the EE website seem simple enough but I’d like to know if this is supported when roaming/not in the UK.

Hello @jeanmyoung ,

Welcome tto the community,

Firstly, are you on pay as you go, as that is not available?

Secondly, I doubt you would be able to do that whilst abroad, but I would suggest either using the chat under help and then talk to us in the app or speaking to them. Not sure whether you can convert from a physical sim to an esim whilst abroad, sorry.

In the UK, phones do normally have one physical sim slot and can support one esim as well, not two using, that is just America that have have two eSIMs.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using web based app or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

Thanks for replying. I’m having major problems getting in touch with EE. I have logged on but I see no live chat option which is what I’m looking for.

Yes, I am on PAYG. What is not available?

Does anyone else know or has been able to achieve this?

eSIMs are not available for EE PAYG.

Live Chat is not available on PAYG.

Can't you get an Oz eSIM instead & use that alongside your EE PAYG pSIM?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.
