My son is going to france with school end of the month, can i add the roaming pass from my end as he isnt the sharpest tool in the box and it says you get a welcome text when you enter the country but dont think he will know what to do with it

No, the roaming pass can only be added by responding to a Welcome text on arrival in the country.

Make sure he texts ROAMING to 150 before leaving UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on his no.
