"pay as you go" and ROAMEU?

Hi

I use "pay as you go", as I dont use the phone that much on it's own, mainy using whatsapp etc it when connected to WIFI.

When going on UK holidays I just buy an "add on pack" so I can have data when not connected.

However -  I plan to go to Europe later this year, and it is not clear what I need..

ROAMEU (for example) seems to say it can only be bought when you have a subscription? Do I need to start a subscription, and then add ROAMEU, so I can then cancel the subscription from renewing? Or can I add ROAMEU on top of a data pack once bought?

thanks

Harry

On PAYG there are charges for using your pack allowances in the EU of either £2.50 / day or £10 / week, to be taken only from your PAYG credit, not your recurring card payment. You will receive a msg upon arrival telling you about these charges for roaming in EU & inviting to take up these options. If you opt for neither or you don't have an active pack, you will be paying standard rates for calls & texts & need to buy a PAYG add-on for data.

Thanks

if I ALSO have an active subscription  (which I do to get DATA when on hols) can I just add the ROAMEU add on? Or will it just use my PAYG balance?

and I dont use (or cant use) the ROAMEU option, am I correct in assuming the etxt message will offer me the choice of £10 a week or £2.50 a day to be charge?

seems like the £10 a week option is good for a week (or two) but the ROAMEU would be cheaper if a longer trip?

thanks

The msg on arrival will invite you to choose between roaming charges of either £2.50 / day, by replying ROAMEU1D to 150, or £10 / week, by replying ROAMEU7D to 150, to be taken only from your PAYG credit.

great - thanks - and are there any other options? I did see "ROAMEU" mentioned which seemed to be for a month?

and some replies seemed to mention "ROAMING" ??

thanks

Hi @AlanMrfixit,

Welcome to the EE Community

For Pay as you go there is no monthly roaming pass, only the daily or weekly options mentioned. So as @XRaySpeX mentioned you can add the £2.50 daily pass or £10 weekly pass when you arrive which will allow to use your subscription pack allowances whilst in the EU.

The only other option is using the standard rates charges which were mentioned, with this option you would need to have topped up a credit balance and then you would be charged 70p a min for calls made or received and 30p to send a text and to use data you would need to buy the £3 500mb add-on.

Texting ROAMING to 150 is to make sure your number is activated for usage abroad so that you can actually connect, but it more applies to pay monthly contract numbers. For Pay as you go as long as you have used the number for chargeable usage in the UK within the past 6 months it should be activated to use outside the UK.

Alex

ROAMING & ROAMEU texts are only applicable for contracts to enable roaming for them either worldwide or in EU only. They are not roaming charges add-ons as such.
