Quite simple really.
On the EE web site, there is a step by step guide provided for the iphone 17 pro max to check whether the phone is set up for roaming.
Each Step was followed, settings >mobile service>Mobile data options> shows ROAMING ON
Then contacting EE customer Services on 150, when getting to the appropriate point the AI says "it looks like your mobile phone is not set up for roaming"
Hence, not a rant but a very brief exclamation based on the facts of my dilemma.
I have since spoken with a very nice person at EE, and they have now resolved the issue to my satisfaction.
HAPPY DAYS!!!

Hi @basilhirniak

Welcome to the community.

The business support team are the best people to speak to about this. They'll be able to make sure everything is set up from our side for you. Hopefully, you managed to get through shortly after posting.

Let us know how you're getting on please.

Did you receive a Welcome text upon arrival?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before leaving to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before leaving UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. using a web-calling app over WiFi.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

How exactly does your phone says "SET UP" for roaming? And how exactly have EE say you are not?

Can you be specific on either point? Because you've not explained. You just seem to be here for a rant.

That's data roaming only not for roaming in general. It won't help you with calls & text.

Also that's for the device only not for roaming on EE.

And to add, if roaming is not enabled on your SIM, then a phone setting for data roaming/voice roaming/text roaming (if the latter two existed) are an exercise in futility.

@basilhirniak You mention that this was "quite simple really" but didn't mention it in your first post. Users responding on here can only advise & comment based on what you post.
