Did you enable roaming on your account by texting ROAMING to 150 before you left UK? If not, you'll need to call CS to get done. Use the Freephone no. in my signature using Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I don’t think that’s the problem as we weee in Singapore on route to Australia and it worked there. But now 12 hrs on from arriving and still no welcome text. Thanks for reply and will try number but I think they are only answering in Uk working hrs which is a bit of an issue with the time difference here

Probably not then.

If roaming has worked before, try and perform a manual network search, and maybe pick the same network that your family are on, as you know that should work?

Does your phone show a connection to any Australian networks? You need mobile network coverage to make/receive calls, send/receive texts or use mobile data.

As others have mentioned, given that roaming has worked outside the EU previously - try a manual network search to connect to local coverage that way. And revert to automatic selection once you've done that.
