Roaming in Germany Fix

WookeyMammoth

Just thought I would post this here to help anyone else out who had the same problems as me.

TL:DR - If you’re having network issues roaming in Germany, manually connect to “o2 -de”

This month I’ve been roaming abroad in several European countries and each time I have left my network selection on automatic as suggested by EE (I am on an iPhone). It’s been all great, that is, until Germany.

For some reason, automatic network selection on EE in Germany gave me 0 coverage in all 4 of the major cities I visited. The fix was simple, disable automatic network selection and manually connect to “o2 - de”. This worked every time and gave me strong 5G in most locations. I hope this helps anyone who has the same problem as me.

Hi @WookeyMammoth

Welcome to the community.

I hope you had an amazing time, it sounds like you had quite the trip. 🙂

Automatic selection should find you the best available connection, but you've done the right thing in manually searching for another one, when it doesn't.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure it may help another user if they're ever in the same situation.

I’m in Germany at the moment for the first time since August. Back then every mobile network was available o2-de, Vodafone, and Telekom, all of which gave 5G and the service was great.

Now Telekom is disabled (I think this happens probably if EE don’t pay their bill!), and I’ve only got o2 and Vodafone.

Vodafone is the strongest signal, but I only get 2G which is pointless, and o2 is 4G/5G but coverage is really ropey. All I really want it Vodafone or Telekom on 5G is that really too much to ask I wonder…
